Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

The problem is they do not reconize the suppression of truth as the threat and reward the trools that stalk me around the internet for doing so and thus bury the truths they could learn with their absense.  The hat police or gestpos I guess.

What they really think?  I think its how to win the popularity contest.

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

True, brother, true...

Back to hats for a bit?

The 'WASP hat' is a bit of an anti-hat maybe. Not without a style of its own, but not up there in the pantheon of high style head wear for sure.

Any tips for those looking to move beyond the basic bucket?

I'm thinking of how best to wear a 'real' hat - should it be matched or complementary to the colour of the suit in some way? Or as it is an outer garment would you match it to the topcoat?

Any tips would be of great use to a hat novice like me.

Thanks -

t.

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

There are folks in both fields of belief here.  There are those as well that thinks about any hat goes well with any garment.  I am not sure they are the more correct ones.  I have tended to match mine up both ways and not at all.   Some folks are very limited in hat budget and very conserative and just order a black hat .  Black is the last color I make for me however.

Some wear lots of earth tones and thus order a very neutral hickory in the browns tones.  Others a char grey with black trim for all things grey, black blue and more.

We have some customers that make out with a single hat and others that order 300 hats.

Here are some general ideas but please disregrad all but the stlying infor as most of this is a very out dated canned email link.

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

Here is a copy and paste from that link in plain text. Please understand this is just a Q&D paste and not a sales in.

"Your hat, by it quality and individuality; poise and pitch; angle and droop can be made to take on as many varying moods as the face underneath. A hat may look aristocratic or vulgar; serious or humorous; gloomy or cheerful; dignified or flippant; radical or conservative; rakish or righteous; fresh or wilted; alive or dead. Your hat is YOU. It commends or condemns you. It bestows character or becomes a caricature. Hence, it should not be selected at random, but chosen with care, to be a reflection of the wearer's taste, position and personality. Thus, really a fine hat is not just a disbursement to cover the head, but an investment in individuality, self-respect and the respect of others"

In the Golden Era, people knew about hats because they wore them often, and this knowledge was passed down father to son.  As time passed, bare heads and ballcaps came to the fore as temporary fashion surpassed true style for a while, and classic hat knowledge faded into obscurity.  However today,  as more and more people continue to seek a return to the dignified good looks and functionality of classic hats, they have questions regarding quality, style, materials, etc, but no place to turn for honest answers.  It is our pleasure to extend to you an invitation to the Sterling Beaver Saloon & Forum, a place where hatters and hat wearers can exchange information in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.  There are many examples of premium quality custom hats, in both words and full color pictures, along with comments from the people who wear these hats everyday.  See you there!

We firmly believe that the best hat is subject to your preferences and personal style.  Along with proper fit, shape, and style; color determination is important in selecting the right hat.

The color of the suit or outerwear will determine the color of hat required. For example certain colors will compliment the look of a blue suit better than other colors. Here are some general tips for selecting a color for your hat.

Light grey:  Goes well with fair complexion, blond and brown hair. Goes with blue, navy, dark grey or black outer clothing.

Dark grey:  Goes well with fair complexion, blond and brown hair. Goes with grey and green colored outer clothing.

·     Navy:  Goes well with blue eyes and any hair color, but particularly suits auburn and red heads. Goes with navy blue, grey, brown and tan or khaki colored outer clothing.

·     Brown:  Goes well with dark and ruddy skins and auburn and red heads, although can be worn by any complexion.  Goes with brown, green, olive and tan or khaki colored clothing. Can be occasionally worn with navy outer clothing.

·     Green:  Goes well with blond and brown hair, although green can be worn by any color hair.  Goes with green, olive, brown outer clothing. It can also be worn with navy outer clothing.

These are merely suggestions and your final decision should be based on what you personally like.  We offer a variety of standard color choices, as well as custom color options.  Give us a call and let us find the right color for you.

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

Too much to think about in my opinion but its only mine.  Best advise is start off with medium Grey hat and expand from there.   If you do not like greys then start with a mid tones brown and expand from there.  If you are just completly conserative then get a black hat and wear it with every thing.

If you can afford it then get a Grey, Brown and Navy to color most sins.  If you have a budget for 5 hats you can cover the entire spectrum including summer. If you have a luxurious budget then you can cover summer and winter well with 7-8 hats and all outfits.

Single hat in UK however can vary from Black to Camel to a Green for some.  In the end its all about personal taste imo.

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

To be honest I was thinking the same!
I'm not sure I ever usually think things out quite as much as that. I just go with what appeals to me.
Grey in town & brown in the country makes sense to me.
Or brown in town too just to pull that old trick of 'I don't belong here' - probably the most over-done trick in London... being in the city but making it clear that you've only just popped in to transact a little business before you nip off elsewhere. The old 'gentleman-amateur' pose!

Food for thought anyway, GH - Thanks -

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

You are welcome Mr. Lean and do take a look around in the hat gallery at : http://www.gladhatter.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=22 at a pythorea of colors and syles and combinations.  About any competent hatter can reproduce anything you see there and not every one requires the level of felt, workmanship or customer care we offer as well so feel free to borrow any ideas you like from our site and whatever hatter you choose can also borrow of what ever we have to offer as we try to share freely with all for the benefit of hat wearing.  The real truth is that if you get a well fitting hat of any color, then you will find a reason to add on more of any and all colors as finding a comfortable hat over one that you thought was just acceptable is the difference between heaven and earth.  Of course if you have a really ill fitting or poorly conformed hat then its the difference between heaven and hell.

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

I loved that shoe porn post as well and they sure had some beautiful shoes posted.  I cannot imagaine having a million pairs of shoes that are just collected but instead a dozen pair of well made comfortable and wearable art would be an assest to any one.  For me the feet and the head are the most important parts to cover correctly and comfortably and the rest is as easy as falling off a log.

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

Horace as I am not a prolitic writter I am not sure I really answered you with all I wrote.

We spent the first year getting an old friend to build  goodly part of our hats as we had NOTHING to work with.  We finally bough a couple blocks and made do with them but realized with his best intentions that he could not make the quality of hat I wanted to produce.  We was practically remaking every hat he sent us as it was.  The final straw ( if you are a member of the Style forum they just booted me off of) was RayK's hat.  We had him a stunning silverbelly hat made but my friend made most of it. I think Dalia finished it and I was so busy I just looked at it with out touching and it was just beautiful.  Well Ray was a member of the fedora lounge as well and an all around nice guy and I reckon with out asking him that he much have fallen for thier tricks and sent that hat around to every member of clout to inspect and then decided the brim was way too stiff.  We got the hat back and sure nuff it was.   It was also filthy from all their handling but I never ever complained about it and never mentioned it till now.  We rebuilt that hat and in fact I rebuilt that hat 3 more times before I was satisfied it was the best it could be and also decided that never again would a hat leave here till my wife was a master and done them all or I had a hand in it or at least touched the hat and inspected it before it left.

Some time later I read a story on the lounge from this Michael D fellow I think where as he go a borsalino in Italy and friends talked him to keep it and finally it ended up on the rack with an old orange toboggan hat with the orange fuzzy ball on it.  He never wore that hat as he hated it.   That day we installed another rule here that no one could own our hats or keep them and be a customer unless they agreed to send the hat we make back to fix or repair till they was satisfied with it no matter what or who made the mistake on it.  We was not going to have any orange toboggans out there.   I think its only reasonable if we are billing out as professional hatters and we are charging a premium price for a premium product and are doing it all by internet and never meeting a customer face to face then we ought to warrant what we see for the purpose it was intended for .

Our current operation is still traditional hand block hand pounced hand stitched hats that are hot water not steam blocked and takes about 10 days to complete a hat.

Later this year we will get some 200 year old equipment refurbished and will use some of it closely supervised and monitored and will actully make better hats then quicker and for less.

We do not require electricity to make a  hat right now and that is kinda unique for this industry.  We have touched and sold more equipment than any one out there and continue to do so but have never used a piece of it to date.

The machines we will use are those that also are not electrical and very ancient.  Even the sewing machines we will set up are all foot powered treadle machines so while we are going moderen this year its only about 200 years ago modern. smile
