Otter : Take it easy, I'm pre-law.
Boon : I thought you were pre-med.
Otter : What's the difference?

Re: Inane Post of the Day 3 Now With Double Inanity Blocking Powerrrrr!

Midnight inanity:

http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/forum/showthread.php?110305-Is-there-a-limit-on-ties-for-lawyers
A lawyer breaks the bank with a bunch of clearance ties from "the Rack" and is now worried that lawyers, vested as they are with the awesome dignity of the law, aren't allowed to wear an unusual tie color. "While none of them are truly loud like neon green with reindeer or anything, a couple are light pink. Plus, I spent a lot of money I wasn't planning on spending," he writes. My heart weeps for this poor man, who is unable to restrain himself from spending money (apparently allotted for other expenses) on ties that he will not be able to wear. Oh, if only he had a highly remunerative profession that demands quick, clear and logical thinking, then he might be able to extricate himself from this horrid turn, or perhaps he wouldn't have plunged into these deep waters in the first place. Andyites arrive to provide several thousands words of cutesy, smug American lawyerisms.
(Note - this is not a dig at the legal profession, which Grossgrain has quite persuasively defended here and there on the FNB boards; it is merely a dig at the sad, indecisive creature that is the iGent lawyer).

http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/forum/showthread.php?110287-Press-Cloth-and-Shoebox
A young man who keeps his ties in a shoebox (apparently wadded up, perhaps passed through a small slit designed to exclude dust) asks Andyland's advice on tie care. I will wager 600 virtual e-dollars that this will end with the total destruction of this young man's tie collection, and possibly of his life.

http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/forum/showthread.php?110293-Yachting-attire-assistance
An iGent ingenue plans a week long Mediterranean yachting trip on a friend's boat. Naturally he asks a group of depraved internet shut-ins what "attire" he should plan on bringing. Heaven forfend that he should ask his friend, "hey Steve, what kinda clothes should I bring?" Then he might seem like a rube! With Anydland's advice he's sure too look like a seasoned salt. The ever-loathsome WouldaShoulda drops by to inform us of the length (though tragically not the girth) of his yacht. Sometimes I grow very sad over the predilections of my gender, and of human beings in general.

http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/forum/showthread.php?110295-Employment-Opportunity-at-Oxxford-Clothes
Live the iGent dream and work for Oxxford! A special bonus - allow the word to trip Janus-like and ambiguous from your tongue in conversation - let the listener wonder "Did he say that he WENT to Oxford, or that he works for Oxford?"

http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/forum/showthread.php?110300-quot-Are-you-friends-with-Andy-quot
Speaking of living the dream - some kind of nightmarish Umberto Eco conspiracy theory secret handshake business going on at the Chik-Fil-A drive through.

http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/forum/showthread.php?110151-Bullard-Field-Pants-hard-to-find
Trads despair of ever finding a true heavyweight made in the USA chino after the supply of Bullard Field Pants from the Great and Exalted Mr. Bill's Khaki Emporium runs out. Might I suggest chain mail with a thin coating of Krylon in a nice tan?

Re: Inane Post of the Day 3 Now With Double Inanity Blocking Powerrrrr!

I take a more moderate approach to protecting my shoes. When I go out in inclement weather (defined as any weather) I simply take a large, sturdy garbage bag, step into it, and cinch it just below my knee with an arm garter. I use garters from the Andover Shop, and I have found great success with Hefty brand "Yard and Leaf" bags, since they are durable enough to stand up to extreme activity (dog walking, the notorious sidewalk in front of the post office, etc).

In other inane news:
http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/forum/showthread.php?110334-quot-Formal-quot-and-quot-Semi-Formal-quot
Andyland debates formal/semi-formal. Check the Earle's heated response:

http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/forum/showthread.php?110334-quot-Formal-quot-and-quot-Semi-Formal-quot&p=1183630#post1183630
Our friend dedicates about a third of this response to mocking the original poster for writing "college" instead of "colleague," which is a worthy and extremely funny use of everyone's time.

Andy enlivens the discussion by asserting that the answer lies within his excellent encyclopedia, a panacea sovereign against all sartorial ills. He also asserts that even the host of the event may not know what he or she means by "semi-formal." I can only assume that if the OP took the rash and foolhardy step of calling the event organizer to beg for clarification, the host would say "I haven't the faintest idea what I meant by semi-formal, I am an imbecile!"

Re: Inane Post of the Day 3 Now With Double Inanity Blocking Powerrrrr!

What does the 25K membership get you?

And what sort of tailor cum "software engineer" freaks out about someone getting a higher rank on google?

A google search for "bespoke tailor Los Angeles" turns up everything under the sun except this dude in the first two pages.

But if I could ask a question: Does someone searching for a bespoke tailor in LA really just turn to the net and google away in amongst the Thai Sewing shops and paid ads?

Why does he need to be on the net at all touting if he is swamped by stars like Leonardo De Vinci or whoever, and only makes for club members who pay 25k? and he does all his measuring cutting and sewing hiself - presumably in between coding in linux with the other hand.

Any idiot can use the term bespoke.

Watch - Gil is a bespoke tailor of inane posts...

His "Articles" section is priceless.

Here's Jacob on the "competitive vibe" that exists in the bespoke tailoring community:

"So it seems more like musicianship to me. I’ve got a lot of musician friends, and after the age of twenty, even shred quitar players and hip hop DJs tend to quit competing with each other like macho kids and spend more time getting drunk, commiserating over industry weasels, and chasing tail together."

He also explains how he might fix the overly open "quarters" of Anderson & Sheppard coats. Perhaps whiney should send him his jacket.

Three words I think of when I think of sartorial excellence: "Duluth" and "Plumber's bag" -

Also: has the WAYWYWYAYWY thread recently transitioned to an all UprCrust format? I admire the depth of his iridescent silk scarf collection.

Contrary to lies of FNB and Woofboxer, I (and most of the other "Buff Bastards") have been banned from posting on this forum. There are only a few posters left so don't waste your time on here. This forum is dead and nobody cares.
