Re: When was the last time you ate an apple in your hands?

Yesterday, Ribston Pippen one of the parents of Cox’s Orange Pippen and a Court Pen du Plat - an apple believed to have come over with the Romans and a parent or grand parent of many modern varieties.

Unfortunately the cold weather before Xmas wrecked at least ¾ of the apples left in store; we might even have to buy some cookers in a few weeks time when they normally last till April sad

And there were some home grown cookers - "Lane's Prince Albert" in tonight’s dinner. Yum.

Re: When was the last time you ate an apple in your hands?

The best apple that I ever had was a no-name apple, one September at Pont Pill, between Fowey and Lanteglos in Cornwall - left to grow wild in the tidal sludge; large, crunchy, red and cream and dripping with juice; maybe the Wicked Step-mother had got its sibling. I have to say that the French challenge us for our cheeses but English apples are the absolute tops, for both flavour and scent. The poor specimens from here (or, more credibly, from Argentina), do not even get to the starting line in comparison.

Last month. I'm not sure of the variety, but it sure wasn't Red Delicious. My local organic store has a fantastic variety. Autumn in my neck of the woods brings a bounty of pears and apples.
It's citrus season now. Time for satsumas and mandarins.

Used to eat them all the time -- McIntosh or Granny Apple. Too sugary for my liking now.

Granny Smith (our very own Ausie apple) very sweet? I think not. It has a tart taste that is very refreshing.

I have three apple trees in my garden, hardly an orchard, but its surprising how many apples they produce. Not sure of the variety though.

Had a Fuji organic apple yesterday.

Re: When was the last time you ate an apple in your hands?

Where I grew up in Ontario many people used to have a few trees and shrubs of this and that in their backyards, which was a nice source of fruit in the summer for snacks, etc. At some point diseases came with foreign imports and now it is almost impossible to grow anything without pesticides, etc. When the government banned home pesticides (the ones that actually work) I suspected the factory farm corporations of writing that bit of legislation: who else but them would benefit from people being unable to grow their own food?

lt's amazing how good a quality apple straight from the tree tastes, so much superior to even the finest organic produce off the shelves (delivered that day). Always best to eat fruit on an empty stomach for best effect.

l think it is very important to eat fruit in season. l think this is really vital.
