Re: What Music Are You Listening to at the Moment...[AKA the Music thread]

A night for some serious listening and on this occasion just LP’s:

Schubert Symphonies 5 & 8, Roger Norrington
Beethoven Piano concerto #4, Early Ashkenazy with Solti
The Moody Blues:
Days of Future past side 2 (incl Nights in White Satin)
On the Threshold of a dream

And a nice bottle of claret in front of a “real” fire whilst the wind blows +30knts outside.

A perfect night in.

What was wrong with the Oz plonk? what brand? How much was it?

I can only take so much of Eva Cassidy.

Me - in post surgery relapse/recovery - guess what - I saw Gang of Four on Letterman late last night.

Reformed - same people or what?

In one song I couldn't work out if they were too old trying to recapture something or .........

Not familiar with Oxford Landing, not even sure if its sold here. But I did find some marketing analysis  in link above. That price seems very cheap. I'd expect to pay at least aud$7 for a good cheap everyday cleanskin quaffer here.

Most of the oz stuff I've seen in UK, EU and Ire is pretty bland generic stuff like Jacobs Creek.

Re: What Music Are You Listening to at the Moment...[AKA the Music thread]

From the "research."

Discussants were then asked to comment on their perceptions of Australian wine, which generated further positive images associated with summertime, crispy and fruity flavours, good value and some specific brands (see table 5).

The empty nesters commented that they were transposing their views of Australia directly onto the wine and could identity a connection between wine consumption and outdoor living. Some of these also considered Australian wine to be a bit better than Chilean wine but there was no apparent agreement on how much higher up the wine hierarchy it might figure when compared with Chilean.

The young female adults commented that whilst Australian wine is a ‘safe bet’ and the price is reasonable, they would not buy it for a special occasion when they would be looking to spend a bit more. For this group, it was definitely seen as more an everyday wine or suitable for a party when they would buy in bulk, because of its reasonable price and reliable quality.

For an everyday drink, the men prefered beer to wine with the latter being more commonly associated with accompanying food, to take to other people’s houses as a gift or if going out to eat.

Re: What Music Are You Listening to at the Moment...[AKA the Music thread]

TV really is bad at the moment so:

Erik Satie-  Piano works / Anne Queffelec First half brilliant, 2nd half less so – down to the score rather than the performer.

Yehudi Menuhin & Stephan Grappelli
Jealosy (Hits of the 30’s) and
    1st side of Fascinating Rhythm

I remember the original Parkinson show that started it all and the albums that followed were memorable as Menuhin got more into it.
Enjoy…  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xV0IcFyXUWs

And a very good value Rioja smile
