Re: Inane Post of the Day 3 Now With Double Inanity Blocking Powerrrrr!

Over the cassock may go a shoulder cape. This should not attach to the cassock. It is a symbol of authority and also a nice piece of clerical “fashion.” I use the term “fashion” loosely, of course, as clerical attire goes according to the traditions of the Church, not the ever-changing whims of the secular fashion industry.

If you’re a prelate, your cassock might have red buttons and trimming and a purple fascia. If you’re a bishop, your cassock might be similar, with an attached shoulder cape (with the attached shoulder cape, it is called a simar). Bishops and certain other prelates have purple cassocks. Canons of Cathedral Chapters often have their own special attire. The number of variations is too numerous to list here, but the same sartorial principals apply. For those who are so entitled, such as bishops, I highly recommend the wear of purple socks under the cassock. In some disciplines, this is required.

Now for some good tips.

1.   It looks better if your pant legs are not visible from beneath the cassock. Roll them up to mid-calf to get a better look. (This is another reason your cassock should be at the proper length. If you roll you pant legs up and your cassock hem is mid-calf, you’ll look like the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz.)

2.   Make sure you have pocket slits in BOTH sides so that you can reach your pants pockets.

3.   In hot weather, wear shorts and a short-sleeved clerical shirt underneath. You’d be surprised how much cooler it is!

4.   Try putting the bottom edge of the front of your clerical collar over the top of the cassock at the bottom of the notch in the cassock’s collar. That is, the part just above the top button. This will help keep the cassock’s collar situated uniformly on top of the clerical collar. It depends on the cassock, though. This is not always possible.

Gentlemen - now THIS is the way to spend Saturday night: tracking down the sordid and extremely weird details of a man who spends time thinking about his cassock.

Anyway -

http://www.rutherfordjohnson.org/

Dr. the Bishop his grace Rutherford Johnson holds a Ph.D. and has published a number of scholarly articles, including, and I swear to God I am not making this up:

Johnson, Rutherford
2003 "Some Interesting Price Issues in Lippizaner Horse Sales" Telicom: The Journal of the International Society for Philosophical Enquiry, December 2003.

Alas, Telicom does not maintain an online archive, or at least not one that my university library pays for. Alas, it is not peer-reviewed.

LATE BREAKING EDIT:

Also he is king of Etruria: http://www.the-johnsonfamily.com/

I know this belongs on the peer reviewed, oft cited and high Journal Impact Factor, Cultural Reference thread, but why do Americans use family names as first names?

In this case I would think the naming convention must be European rather than American, since his family branches from the royal tree of the noble house of Etruria. I looked up his cracker dissertation at the widely acclaimed school of agricultural economics at the University of Kentucky. He appends the coat of arms of his noble house to it, which is certainly cute but is also kind of an unusual move for a doctoral dissertation or, in fact, any publication.

Where did Andy find this guy? I kind of feel like sending off an anonymous email to ol' Andy warning him that he's dealing with a delusional weirdo of the absolute highest magnitude. I mean, Andy may be a shameless shill but he's not actually insane.

EDIT - OHMYGOD maybe he knows the Most Handsome Man in Korea, the expat professor extraordinaire, and maybe the Most Handsome Man in Korea introduced him to Andy! The Bishop teaches at some Korean business university and so does Handsome Ex-Pat.
