Who is the ultimate galactico, aka best dresser, in New York?

FNB, Marc Grayson or Manton? Discuss.

Hmmmm...

Manton is always pictured in the shadows...

Modesty?
Shyness?
Fear of exposure?

Or maybe he just likes to lurk?

Good luck to him anyway.

From the pics I've seen, Marc's stuff appears to be more luxurious and precisely fitted versions of what I already wear, plus some things that I aspire to wear. So since our tastes are so similar, I would say Marc. I really like FNB's stuff too, in a different way.

Marc, if you're a 42 semi-long or long, any way you could adopt me as your sartorial heir???? smile smile smile smile smile

I've seen Manton in pictures and it was vastly underwhelming--like being told a Home Depot fountain was Niagra Falls.

The drape cut suits he favors does him no grace nor does his choice of footwear and accessories which are dour at best and insipid at worst. While his persona and book may appear to give forth a dandified nature, I suspect being a ghost-writer for various Republican pundits in Washington D.C. has lowered standards--if there were some to begin with.

All of my close friends, family members, and my trained dog are poised to vote and so for fear the results would be skewed, I'm forced to remove myself from consideration smile

Last time I was in New York I was very well dressed. I hadn't trodden in anything and there was barely any soup on my tie. I nominate me as the people's choice.

I gotta go with Marc. (I still can't believe he's a 42 long). His clothes look sculpted by the finest artisan, say, someone like Benvenuto Cellini.

Although to be fair, I've never seen Manton, only read and enjoyed his wonderful book. Do I then lose my right to vote?

Re: Who is the ultimate galactico, aka best dresser, in New York?

This one is easy for me: Manton.

But not because I think it's because he has superior style, grace, or wardrobe.

It's because I've seen him.

Marc's suits appear to be the most impeccable of the bunch, but every pic I've seen is a suit on the hangar. That tells me nothing about fit, let alone how the shoes gel with the suit and the accessories.

As for FNB, I've seen plenty of what I like to call "decapitated" pics that used to pop up on AA, but they were mostly chest shots: no shoes, no face.

I understand the desire for anonymity. I also understand that Marc and FNB have complete lives outside of and apart from clothing, so they frankly could care less if they "win" this one or not.

I just have to call it as I see it.

If it's a guy who's complete presentation I've seen more than once vs. decapitated well-dressed guy vs. nice suits on a hanger, I have to give it to the first in the bunch, basically by default.

Cheers.

Well, from the pictures that I have seen on these sites, only Marc would be in the running, but to me he would not win.  This is not to say anything bad about Manton or FNBs style, it is just that they are built in less 'normal' ways.  Perhaps this is one reason that they have gravitated towards bespoke, but it also can make the overall look a bit less classically elegant.

Btw doesn't G. Bruce Boyer live in NY?

Also Mory (always featured at thesartorialist.com and most recently in GQ)?

Both of those guys are beasts in the fashion department. Probably 2 of the best dressed in the city by far.

Cheers.

Re: Who is the ultimate galactico, aka best dresser, in New York?

One of the 5 worst? LOL. That's harsh.

I like Mory's style because he takes chances and his clothing is put together in a sexy way.

Sometimes he can be self-effacingly simple in the Italian tradition, or as colorful as a young banker in London who just made his first million pounds, though always closer to the Italian tradition.

As anyone who experiments, his clothing can sometimes look a bit over the top and sometimes even silly. But generally he looks impeccable and, at his best, he looks amazing.

Btw, the best dressed New Yorker has probably never been photographed or is photographed very seldom. I know a few in the private equity and hedge fund fields who only wear bespoke and look absolutely impeccable (the younger guys in PE and hedge funds of course wear jeans and maybe proper trousers on a good day - I'm talking about the gents over 50).

Cheers.

^ LOL, your personal anecdotes are always entertaining.

I was thinking more along the lines of polished guys like Nelson Peltz.

I almost forgot! I think Domenico Vacca looks great too. He'd be in my top 5 I think.
