I agree with Formby, on all this. Moreover, what leaders (apart from hereditary ones) are not thrusting, egotistical prima donnas? Look at Alexander The Great and Genghis Khan for a start. If they were not like this, they would be totally useless as leaders.

/\Before we had the kids, my missus wanted a French bulldog. Little fat dumpy critters.

There is definitely a vein of coolness or some repressed emotional crippleness in the British pysche; I remember visiting the Chester military tattoo back in 1980 and was excited about the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and my father gave me a right rollicking for letting this excitement show when the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane passed over.

Re: British sangfroid: An outdated stereotype...?

An English dentist who faced charges of breaking wind and belching in front of patients and staff has been struck off.

Matthew Walton, 35, from Shrewsbury, also swore and made ''V-sign'' gestures to patients and staff behind their backs, the General Dental Council in London heard. It ruled his conduct required immediate suspension of his registration ''for the protection of the public''. Unless he appeals, his name will be erased from the dentists' register in April, meaning he cannot legally work as a dentist in Britain.

He faced a number of clinical and conduct charges, including breaking wind during appointments and exposing a nurse to X-ray radiation. Mr Walton, who has not worked as a dentist since 2007, admitted the allegations about clinical issues, but denied some of the allegations of poor conduct.

Both French Bulldogs and English Bulldogs are extremely popular with gay men in the USA, especially the Frenchies. Sighthounds are also favorites of the gay set
