A CampSod but I am using San Pellegrino with the Campari as there is no soda. The missus got poured a brandy lime and soda after I suggested "a glass of wine" sounded boring. I was going to go with Lime and bitters until I spotted the old Campari in the cupboard. Still a beautiful warm Sydney autumn day so it still feels like summer.

Saltram Barossa Cab 2003. Much improved since last year and now showing real cab characteristics of blackcurrant and a bit of mint. Great length and although the alcohol is high at 15% the acidity keeps it so well balanced that you'd never know. Real length.

A curiousity: Greek sweet wine (Nyx). 2 greek varieties combined to produce a slightly sherry like wine. Tawny in colour and with some acidity. Not too sweet and with a distinct aroma of oranges. Wonderful with caramelised oranges and chocolate cornflake cake.

Shooey - its Good Friday a holy day - so far one bottle of Sav Blanc NZ - then a bottle of Shiraz Oz organic cleanskin - salami - olives, blue vein, grilled eggplant, - cooking bœuf bourguignon for tonight - from Elisabeth David recipe I think I have in my head - well I used to - with Kipflers spuds mmmmmh listening up very loud Chess Hits, Fontella Bass, Toots & Maytals, Pressure Drop, and various Dub and soul and Blind Boys gospel, Ramsey Lewis Trio Live........

Did a fortnight commuting up to Oxford every day. Checked out the local pubs and the 'Inspector Morse' circuit before getting the train home. Very good Brakspears up there. The Turf and Lamb & Flag and the Wetherspoons were the best of the boozers, although igents might like The Bear which featured walls covered in ties -or neckties as the Americans call them - all labelled up and in glass cases. I just thought the beer (Fullers Chiswick) was expensive.

This week I managed to drink in Ye Olde Mitre on successive nights, which is often a problem as my pals have mostly retired or taken a pay off. Oakham JHB was very good. On the following night Deuchars was on form. Today Becks - it is cold and reinheitsgebot plus a Springbank chaser.

Had some very nice Chinese at a top local restaurant with some other friends and then got the pleasant surprise when a mate (who had been doing it tough and has got a bit more now) paid the whole bill! Enjoyed some Villa Maria Cab Sav ex NZ and then some Penfolds red followed by return home and espressos all round on my beaut Nespresso machine. 8 perfect espressos made in like 10 minutes all up! My friend at Nestle in Switzerland tells me it took 10 years R&D to develop the Nespresso machine.
