The whole thing, including many of the responses above, makes me utterly sick (mainly the fervour of the zealots). But, hell, I had the sense to leave and come and live in the sun.

I think the fact that Osama was shot though unarmed may have been the result of orders to take him out if there was any resistance encountered. If there had been a complete surrender, I doubt if he would have been killed. On the other hand, one can only imagine the embarrassment to the U.S. government had Bin Laden escaped in the middle of a firefight!
