Anyone interested in sharing colourful expressions from around the world: to kick off, here's an old cavalry regiment expression for rushing to accomplish something, against the clock:
"At a split-arse gallop".
"Like a Lizard drinking.."
In French you can say: "The news spread like syphilis in the Breton low clergy". ("Breton" means from Brittany, the Western tip of France.)
Going hell bent for election (usually--guy running or driving fast)
The whole kit and kaboodle (everything, the works)
Like shit through a goose (an older version of Like water through a Mexican tourist)
"He's a dear friend of mine... And I really must find myself a cheaper one..."
"He's the strong silent type... Not that I'm comparing him to a sly fart"
Mr. P. Nahman.
Coney Island Whitefish.
Now there's a nostalgic one for you.
Its as full as a catholic primary school
Better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick.
Busier than a bricklayer in Beirut.
He was off...like a bride's nighty!
In like Flynn.
Drier than a dead dingo's donger.

better than a poke in the belly button with a finger dipped in vegemite
= it could be worse
"Looking as though he/she had lost half a crown and found sixpence"
Josh - Please give us the authentic French of the low clergy saying.

"And if my Aunt had balls, she'd be my Uncle."
(Said after someone else has been going on and on with"What if" questions or musing about how things could be different, to show such talk is a waste of time.)

Of an ugly man "I'd not climb over x to get to you".
Of an igent - "lokks like he's just swallowed a wasp/sucked a lemon"
"As ugly as a hatful of a***h****".
Of parsimony: "As tight as a camels' a*** in a sandstorm", and
"As tight as a duck's fert". I think that 'fert' is dialect but I am not sure.
"dumb as a sack of hammers" always makes me laugh
"I wouldn't piss on X if he were on fire".
"You have pissed on your chips" or "shit your hole full" = had your last chance.
