Re: Some colourful expressions

I mentioned this thread to 'er indoors and gave her some examples but was met with a blank (and mildly disdainful) expression. I then said: "I suppose that this sort of humour appeals less to women" and she replied "Probably, to men too."

Re: Some colourful expressions

Friday evening and this is what I am doing.  Ok.  You need to think of a Scottish accent and you need to see a guy throwing a docking rope and missing several times and then I hear this:

"Ye couldn't hit a cewe in the arse with a banjo."

I laughed for days at that one. A nice variant on the previously mentioned barn door.

My all time favorite:  "Even if you feel good, if ten people tell you that you are dead, maybe you should lay down for a while."

Oh and I forgot - "I am as horny as a three dicked dog."

Re: Some colourful expressions

"Built like a brick S***house" = stocky fellow.

"With a chest like a fourpenny rabbit" = little runt.

"Two bricks short of a wall" = a variation on a theme above in the thread, as is

"The lift/elevator doesn't go all the way to the top".

This is all much more fun than not discussing frock coats.

'...like a fart in a bottle...' - Agitated.

'...like sh*t through a goose...'  - Something done at great speed.

Re: Some colourful expressions

"Like a fart in a collander" is another one - the added point here being that the fart cannot decide out of which collander hole to go.

Re: Some colourful expressions

Almost forgot to post my favorite literary "colorful expression" of all time, from Mark Twain complaining about a mutual acquaintance:

"...quadrilateral, astronomical, incandescent son-of-a-bitch."
- from a letter to William Dean Howells, 13 February 1903.

"It is my belief that nearly any invented quotation, played with confidence, stands a good chance to deceive."
- Mark Twain
