Plato's Guardians

Maybe Plato's idea that ther should be Guardians of the public good was a good idea. Adapting the idea to the modern world: there should be people, not born but bred, to guard our civilization. I'd be glad for your views.

Re: Plato's Guardians

Bred ? You mean like a Master Race ?  No thanks

At it's very best it would be a Nanny State or a One World 'Elf & Safety' Government

I'll take my world free and messy without any rules dictated by the uber people

Re: Plato's Guardians

Getting bored down there on the Island of Dr Moreau  - amongst all the untermenschen ?

Do you deny the idea's connection to totalitarian thought ?

If so, you make yourself (even more) ridiculous.

Re: Plato's Guardians

The next time NJS wants to use a Star Trek script as inspiration for a thread I would ask him to stick to Spock's love life or perhaps the benefits of point shooting with phasers

Re: Plato's Guardians

I think that Grizzly Adams and Popeye Doyle lack enough humour to be Guardians so we can rule them out of the running; besides no Guardian ever wore red socks.

These guardians wear red:-

Self-appointed though and not exactly what is sought.

Re: Plato's Guardians

So, the answer is to replace the all 'Evil Corporations' with 'Guardians' who really do know better and have my best interests at heart ?   Riigghht.  That's just another style of tyranny

I say being debt free and self employed are a good start

From there we can work on eliminating people's incessant need for big government and / or the Nanny State
