Pick and Pick

Could anyone help me sort out my confusion over the crossover between pick and pick and hopsack? I feel that a grey pick and pick can look very pleasing. Those I have seen look like a hopsack weave to me, although in the finer weaves this is hard to tell. I understand that hopsack is more casual and less dressy than a twill...although Morning dress seems to be a hopsack pick and pick, and that is considered formal. Can a pick and pick be either  a twill or hopsack? Or, is the hopsack weave used to emphasise the look and surface interest of the pick and pick pattern. ....can anyone help me get this clear in my mind?....thanks?

Re: Pick and Pick

Hopsack suiting is created by having two or three yarns of the same colour woven side by side in the warp and weft, to create a basket weave; the result being little squares similar to sacks used to bundle hops. Pick-and-pick is just where the adjacent picks are from different coloured yarns. You might have a pick and pick for a grey morning suit but I have never seen one made of a hopsack. Still, with all the innovation that some claim is going on (what with Savile Row having become such a hip 'n' happenin' place and all), why not go for it?
