Sports Corner

Talking to one of Russell Street's non-Ivy pals about Arsenal, football and the cost of season tickets etc. reminded me that the world often divides into those people to whom you can talk about sport and those who you cannot.

This is certainly true of my friends. Mention football or golf to one lot and there is no response and they quickly change the subject. Likewise, if they mention the theatre to me I switch off. Only a few have wide-ranging interests.

Anyway, not much sport on FNB at the moment. So I will start the ball rolling.

Anyone else surprised by the UK demand for 2012 Olympic tickets?

The hundred metres finals I can understand, but the Opening Ceremony and the sports we do not even play? I know Aussies are sports-mad and their success fuels that demand; but I just did not think I would ever see Brits being that interested. You can get in to see top notch international athletics at Crystal Palace every other year with no problem.

Thoughts?

^It is just a fashionable jamboree and a big business, that uses PR to excite an interest that the events do not justify and, as so often happens, the herd mentality takes a firm grip and millions of morons get sucked in.

On another note, Spurs had better not get rid of Sandro!

Re: Sports Corner

Sport is the fuckin cheap oxycontin of the people here.

About half the TV "news" is sport.

Disgusts me most of it.

Re: Sports Corner

Rugby union is a better spectator sport than rugby league. I have never really liked watching even top flight rugby league.
