Gladys Mills and Russ Conway
It just occurred to me that, amidst all the talk of moderns, such as Amy Winehouse (RIP), we forget some other really great entertainers, such as Gladys Mills and Russ Conway. Any views? Plenty if them to sample on good ol' youtube! Fabulous stuff! Glads strumming out 'Underneath The Arches' and Russ's arrangement of 'Rule Britannia'! What other country could have produced them? And no snarking, please, gents. I am sincere.

Both were competent. But they pale against the talent of another pianist who was popular in the UK - Winifred Atwell.

Winifred Atwell was (is) very big over here.
She was extemely popular - even after speaking out about Australian treatment of Aboriginals - way back before it was even vaguely acceptable to examine white treatment of blacks.
She eventually moved over here and settled in Sydney and died and is buried here.
