Re: The Wetter the Better

So now we know the truth behind much of 'Take Ivy'.  All that slippery male bonding.

Re: The Wetter the Better

You can read a lot into the picture on the left, a foretelling of the Twin Towers, two tall figures stand adjacent while an Asian looking chap rides a hijacked push bike into the side of them, and that small square object at the foot of the picture much represent Building 7, it makes some much sense now, how did we not see the signs!?

'Alkie Ada' gay bonding?  I take it all back about modern comedians.  Gordon Brown had a lot going for him.

Re: The Wetter the Better

Do you know its often the practice in Middle Eastern countries for men to hug and hold hands, my Ex (a women) brought back some great photos of Sri Lankan Armed police sat together linking arms, I suppose when under the threat of constant attack of the Tamil Tigers you need to turn to more unorthodox methods to keep spirits up.

Well worth being reminded of, Paul Whitehouse is a very funny chap.

Harry once called in at John Simons to ask directions.  Always remember that.

Why did those ugly bright yellow rain slickers become preppy fixtures in the olden days?

I've noticed recently his love of tortoiseshell glasses and slightly moddy attire. I wonder... could he be... an Ivy sympathiser?

Now there's a question, BT.  Glad I stopped wearing mine over here.  Just a phase.

Re: The Wetter the Better

Stephen Fry was turned out well on the first series of  ''A Bit Of..'' seeing his recent efforts I doubt very much if he is actually gay because he seems completely unable to match a shirt, jacket and tie.

Mm...  I'd never quite thought of it like that.  I saw him in the West End back in '84.  No-one really knew who he was then.  Except his Mum, I suppose.

Re: The Wetter the Better

The way him and HL turned out reminds me a bit of Pete and Dud, one talented in other areas easily cracks America, the other stays in Blighty and consumes (substitute drink for food), and most probably lands himself in an earlyish grave.

I'm tempted to agree with you.  I hated the hype.

Mind you, this could set off one of those US/UK spats.  Seriously, there is little - possibly nothing - Big Tony can't reference.  He might chip in.  Always interesting.  Well, mainly.

Re: The Wetter the Better

I for one was caught up in the hype and bought TI, but after reading the first few pages I was hit with the same uneasy feeling as reading 'Mein Kampf', I felt alarmed, and a little bit sick. To put it quite simply, the premiss of that book is more than a little bit weird.

Re: The Wetter the Better

I'll level with you, we used to have to look at computer images or bad scans.  Before it was reprinted, you see.  Take it or leave it stuff, but authentic for the period, no?  I took against it and it's all there in a posting about three years ago.

Re: The Wetter the Better

OPH is laughable, it is however less weird. Rich Yanks wanting to be Anglophiles is easier to understand than, Japanese wanting to replicate exactly the US Ivy experience.
