The thread from the other MB is a superb commentary on the impact of Ivy/Trad in Japan. It is huge!

It is an interesting look at what has happened in the US to J Press. Many that have been loyal followers of the brand for many years, just don't understand it, and may never.

As I learned from an industry source, that considered an affiliation with JP, the only interest that JP has in the US operation, is that of maintaining a presence here, that can be marketed in Japan. The thead illustrates that point dramatically.

The operation in the US is not about making money.

Ergo, it is of no consequence whether "The Designer" screws up the US operation or not. Having a brand in the US is the only thing that counts.

Furthermore, the polyester trousers, TRAD lapel pins, etc.,that don't sell here, can all be sold in Japan at full mark up, since they carry the image of coming from the US. Shoes don't sell here. No problem, ship them to Japan. Beats having to give them away to STP.

In oter threads, you will see the vast disparity from things in the JP catalogue, and availabity through their web site. Not even close.

Like it or not. It is just the way things are. You can still get a 3-2 suit there, etc. But the thing is in reality a hollow brand that allows the real money maker in Japan to flourish beautifully.

The positive thing is that there is still a vestage of the origional brand available here. If it were not for the Japanese ownership, the doors would have closed long ago. As has been pointed out elsewhere, there are simply not enough of us left that want what JP had to offer 40 years ago to keep the brand alive.

But a nice one.
