It was more his preferred clothing style I was referring to. Ivy, of course, but what in particular? I think he still likes Smedley. Shoes? Alden still? Possibly not. Old Walk Over? Red brick soles?

OK, you flatter me with your interest.

Shirts - Mercer. The best. Esp their blue chambray.
Ties - plain, knitted. Navy or dark green.
Keydge jackets, or vintage.
Levis vintage range. Great jeans.
Normally Clarks Cola desert boots, or wine tasselled Weejuns with the tassels cut off. A home-made Venetian, inspired by Jason Jules. Unlined BB Alden now and again. Gone off brogues.
Ecky Thump caps from Simons ('City Hats' from Belgium). Great Ivy cord cap from them too (like Lemmon's in IVY LOOK)
Gloverall Duffle, or a cracking BB herringbone overcoat someone passed on to me. College scarfs complete the look.

That's the basics. Pretty banal really. I dress down more these days. I have a little beard to make myself look more like JS.

The other Saturday boy at The Ivy Shop when I was there wore the Tasselless Tassel Weejun in just the way you mention due to an accident. A very cool look I thought, but was far too precious about my loafers to copy him. I quite fancy trying it now. A lovely careless look.

Dug out my old college scarf the other day and it was too shabby to be worn so I ordered another via internet.

The idiots have sent me one with some ruddy great college crest on it, the kind of tat you'd flog to an Italian tourist. Why this need for piling one thing on top of the other? I liked the old plain striped version which didn't make you a walking, showing-off, beacon to any passer-by.

You don't have holes in your de-tasselled Weejuns. You're left with the little slip of leather that the tassels used to be attached to. It looks great. I'll try and find JJ's pic. Honestly, penny loafers are SO 1985...
