There is tremendous potential here. It can be a refuge for those that are seriously interested in men's style, and want to exchange ideas with like minded individuals. There is a vacuum that can be filled here.
When SF runs an election on the greatest "douchebag" this doesn't have a lot of appeal.
When another forum is largely overwhelmed by wannabes, this isn't very nourishing.
There are some very knowledgable participants here, such as the leader, Tom22, Horace, and Cooly. It was a pleasure to hear from them, and to learn from them once more.
However, it seems a bit hypocritical to have a long thread on inane threads, and then to be faced each day with threads that exceed inane.
This is the internet, home to everything from bomb throwing radicals, to those that enjoy child pornography. There is little control, nor should there be. Take it or leave it.
It is no great loss, but after a few weeks, " leave it" seems like the best choice. Ergo, log out...... have a nice life, gentlemen!
Bit of a blow for me because I wanted a hardcore AAAT style Trad with all that Matt had to offer to add to the mix here in my ongoing exploration of the Ivy League style.
I hope Matt returns some day.

Matt ol Sport,
You might want to ease off the high horse a bit, eh. I seem to recall you posting a bit on the Inane Post thread yourself, several times in fact. If you have good material to add, by all means welcome. One of the beautiful things over here is that we are free from the overbearing nanny-like moderators of elsewhere. I hope that you will continue your excellent posts here.
Cheers,
Trip

To those that simply complain about things that are easily avoided (don't open a thread whose title you find offensive), or who simply say "I don't like where this is going so I'm leaving" rather than staying and trying to change it, I say; Good bye and good riddance!
Also, those that are going to leave from the various forums, do us all a favor and just leave. No need to announce your departure.
At the end of the day gentlemen, the subject matter that we spend hours discussing on these fora is essentially irrelevant and we, by default, are essentially irrelevant. So let's ease up on this sensitivity bullshit

Ed, that's really hurt my feelings.
Objecting to the direction a forum is going by abdicating your say in the matter is a rather self-defeating form of protest.
Linking to posts you find inane on this forum in the Inane Post of the Day thread would have been a much more effective way to hold a mirror up to the forum. We'd have appreciated the wit.

I was only aware of this sort of style forums a couple of weeks ago by accident in my hotel room but I can definitely say this is the beauty of internet - without it the like minded people would never get together.
To answer Matt's question -
I think that the forum will get larger and more diverse as more people are attracted to it.
Check the hits on this thread which has only been up a few hours -
People read FNB.
More will post as time goes by.
And as long as this style forum remains the antidote to all the others then its USP will remain intact.
Only the posters can really see to that, no amount of Moderating can affect the content of a forum too much one way or another.
So although I'm sad to see Matt go, if he wasn't an FNB kinda guy he was quite right to move on. There are other forums as Matt himself describes in his post. You just have to pick which one suits you best. IMVHO.

I won't fuss over it but I'm damn sorry to see you go Matt, the really good posters on Ivy are a handful here, a handful over there, and, well, this is one more star that goes out.
Yet, when I have finished studying law and will once again have an opportunity to go away more on weekends, as I am starting to now, there will be less incentive to visit ANY forum.
Check my PM to you if you log on again.

I can tell you where it's not headed:
1. Abusive moderating
2. Criminal invasion of privacy
3. Trunk shows
Lets not take ourselves too seriously. Fashion and style should be fun.
I am always amazed as such " democratic" post. Seems there are always people that know what is wrong with no answers or spirit to hang around and fix it.
I am not sure I can ever be any great shakes here but I do know I will come when I can and try to add positive content to the joint.
I will leave for good when I am dragged out by the feet nashing and hollering.
I may be spase from time to time but I will be inputing when here. Anything less and you are just belly aching and not truing to fix but trying to destroy.
I like how this forum is a democratic organ of discussion where grievances can be wringed out with public support. Indeed, on another well-known forum I have again been put into the ubiquitous time-out corner for my British spree.
It's ironic that people who subscribe to a "British" way of life--even a Anglophilia forum!--would find scathing self-deprecating British humor offensive.

Where is the forum headed?
Are there any good bespoke handbasket makers? Which material is best for handbaskets? Wicker? Leather? Asbestos? That should be flameproof. Is there a trad handbasket? Wait, I know, one of those Nantucket baskets. Can the basket be brown? Is hell considered country or town? There are so many questions to be answered before we can even begin to climb into the handbasket to hell. I think we've got years before it happens. Keep up the good work everyone!
