I will wear spats and have matching gloves. I will consider the monocle. I will also sprinkle my conversation with German and talk about the Duke and Wallis. Should I arrive in a horse drawn carriage? I could have the concierge arrange that. I could ask that carriage be gold. Or would gold be just too much?

Hello Rob -

Back to accessories & such like -  I mentioned in my first response here a scarf, gloves, a hat & a brolly as the weather requires - Good advice for being in London, I thought, so you could just add or subtract as the weather changes. Easily bought over here at all price points & probably very useful to you (maybe). Does the thought of them appeal?

Best,

James

Gloves could be useful at night on your walks?  It does get chilly after dark.

Finest umbrellas in London?  That could be a nice debate on the forum - Fox, Smith, Brigg - But the finest? We should discuss this. I like Smith.

The Savoy has had a recent re-fit & has a lot of lovely history to enjoy: Oscar upstairs with Bosie, & Noel in the American Bar singing his way through the Blitz. I used to drink there after work with my father as he walked home West from The City & I walked home South from Soho to Chlesea. My brother, being in Pimlico, always missed out...

It's in a great location for exploring London - Up the hill to Covent Garden, down the hill to the river. You'll be able to walk to most central locations from there with ease.

If you dine at the Savoy in black tie you will be fine as it will be assumed you are going on somewhere or are on your way back. Ditto Simpsins & Rules. The problem with other places may be that you might look as though you have dressed for the restaurant in black tie which would be rather odd. A shame people don't dress up more... I never do now & even boycot black tie functions through laziness. I do like to see it on other people though.

Best Wishes -

J.
