Wasn't there a time in the 1960's or 1970's when the Labour government and councils were going out of their way with a policy to destroy historic buildings? There was an old medieval coaching house in my home town that was destroyed during this time and a friend of mine has a collection of fine ancient busts and gargoyles that he took out of a building that was getting ready for destruction by the local council.
It would be a shame if the art deco Odeon in Chester is destroyed, but having seen the ugly monstrosities they've been building on the way into Chester on the A41 from the Wirral, I can only conclude this may well be their dastardly plan.
