Butterfly loafers.

I realize the style has classical (English) contexts, but really I've always thought the look was rather irretrievably tacky, bordering on the effete. It reminds me of sauntering and posturing and a certain melodrama, not entirely inappropriate on stock brokers intent on acting refined but who talk business at dinner tables and are unapologetic about it.

Or, perhaps one might see say, some Power Attorney in New York--or some other City--wearing them with a Power Suit; loafers with suits are usually always unredeemable.

What say ye?

Re: Butterfly loafers.

I think I know what design of loafers you're talking about but can anyone post a picture just to confirm my mind?

Never 'erd of 'em, but they don't sound good.

Re: Butterfly loafers.

No doubt they are difficult to construct, but they look like novelty items.
Loafers for the man who has all other loafers, but can't bear to buy duplicates.

All they lack is macaroni glued to them and spray-painted gold.

Re: Butterfly loafers.

I'm not really a loafer guy, but I think the shoes above would be okay with jeans. I can't imagine wearing them at a law firm except on weekends. (Maybe I'm too cautious?)

I like these better:

Re: Butterfly loafers.

The items that Twin Six posted remind me of something that Berluti would make for Matt Lauer to wear sockless.

Or I could imagine Jared Paul Stern wearing them with some pretentious ensemble.

Re: Butterfly loafers.

I actually quite like them. Go extremely well with cravats, bowties, tweed jackets, corduroy and moleskin pants.

It's funny that this thread appears so soon after the discussions of the colour of my pants on this forum. I think both - butterfly loafers and bright colour corduroy or moleskin pants - appeal to the same type of older men. They are the sort of things you either love them or hate them.
