The old shetlands

So I dug the last one from Brooks that wasn't decimated by moths. It was sized by numbers but pretty close to the Large they sell today ( Number 42). A bit thicker I think and a rougher, real shetlanm wool. But the ones Brooks sells today are very close to what was sold in the 1980s. Disappointed with what Press is selling. the Large is small, the neck is no where near where it is supposed to be (too large). It was better in the 80s. But the Brooks shetland of today is OK. a little soft but it is OK. and the size is right.

Re: The old shetlands

The current Press offering is very like the old Westerway & Westerway Shetland of the 80's. Certainly a trimmer cut compared to anything else I have & much more of a layering item than a sweater to wear by itself maybe.
Some of the old W&W Shetlands I have almost have a 'boat neck' (but not quite!) looking at them. Quite a wide crew neck, if that makes sense.
So I'd say the new items from Press are Kosher as Shetlands but just not the style most people might be used to.

Certainly I agree they're nothing like the Brooks cut or the usual Press or Andover cuts.
