Denim / jeans - where do you go for good quality?

I'm in the market for a pair of jeans.  I used to buy 501's, but I'm now working out more and they don't fit my legs as comfortably as they used to.  I'm looking for a high quality pair with somewhat wider legs than on a 501.  Any input?

Many thanks,

JD

I wear 501's for the most part.  Levis probably makes a wider, "relaxed" model.  I have a pair of Rag and Bones from back when they were made in the US.  Their thighs are a bit wider than 501s.   If I was willing to spend over $200 on a pair of jeans (the R&Bs were on sale), I'd get a pair of Sugarcanes from Self Edge in San Francisco or NYC.

I've been looking for jeans with a parallel stitch raised seam on the outside. All seem to have it just on the inside.  Ina slim/ straight leg slim thigh in a medium raise for jeans.

R M Williams have them in their Legends range but as far as I've seen they are only in boot cut.

Levi change the cut on all models from time to time, following the fashion of the period. They've done a 501 this year in salvage to mark 125 years of making that model. Based on the 501 cut made in 1955 which is a little wider in the leg. Nice texture to the cloth, shrink to fit so you'd need one size up. They don't shrink very much though. I just machine wash mine and often, they've kept there texture well. Only thing I've not liked about them is the colour keeps coming out upto about the 4th wash. They've left a mark on some seude boots. That said there still quite dark now. I've had mine about 7/8 months. I'd buy another pair anyway.

The link without pointy mutilations:
http://www.americanrider.com/output.cfm?ID=2406943
That’s a sure nice testimonial you have got there, so lets have a look: After we are informed that the Diamond Gusset Defender Reinforced Motorcycle Jeans is just perfect for all kinds of typical chopperistaactivities like cruising, washing, shooting pinups and just “hanging out”, which should be especially comfortable because of the giant sized Diamond Crotch for the equally giant sized American Private Parts, we are introduced to Mr. Pitton.

Mr. Pitton, who had to suffer tragic setbacks in life, experienced a frightening event: he was driving 45 MILES PER HOUR, 30 mph more than chopperistas are used to and five mph below going supersonic. After he heroically decided to lay his bike on the ground – he did not panickblocked a tire like everybody else does – celestial trumpets blasted the national anthem and Mr. Pitton, on his way to his good samaritan work, stood up: unharmed, unbeaten in the field and saved by Diamond Gusset Defender Reinforced Motorcycle Jeans with kevlar patches. Praise the Lord.
Only socialist muslims would argue that one suspiciously uncritical written testimonial does not proof anything at all and there would be hardly any difference if you would drive naked, which would finally give giant sized American Private Parts the necessary room.

Seriously, are we all going to wear Banana Republic suits in Don Draper style because we find a testimonial by Joe the Plumber who was the star at the annual meeting of Burger King branch managers?

Sheplers have a good range - and importantly a description of the fit etc of Wranglers - http://www.sheplers.com/shop/wrangler_mens/

I might take a punt and buy two pair of different Wranglers @ around $40 each + $26 postage. One style is called the George Straight - hard to resist.

And they ship to Australasia - not Levis - Levis has a gouging pricing model in Australia and wont allow USA companies to sell to OZ. Levis on sale in USA = $40 - in Oz = $120+

Looked at the nice pair of R M Williams today - http://www.rmwilliams.com.au/home.asp?p … 8B78DF8F6B - they are very nice in the flesh - deep dark colour ,nice seams double stitched on outside and I measured a 11.5" front rise - but - they are only in a boot cut! = $133
