A favorite shop.

I thought I might share with this forum a favorite store.

http://www.lorenzi.it/

Its items are rather requisite for any sort of dandy.

Re: A favorite shop.

How beautiful, especially the Naples and Rome shops. I am familiar with the firm, however I have never patronized them.

What would you say their items are like? I have the impression that is somewhat similar to Marc Guyot's aesthetic, which takes a point of cue from the 1930s.

The one aspect I take slight offense to with the majority of Italian stores is their overbearing usage of blonde woods. This doesn't seem to be the case here, with vintage Louis Vuitton trunks, etc.

Re: A favorite shop.

There seems to be a fair number of Italian haberdasheries in New York yet I find some of them somewhat offensive, if not ostensbily. For example Peter Eliot with its sales akin to a country liquidation auction.

Jay Kos is caustic. There also seems to be a new shop called Venanzi who opened in collaboration with James & James. I have no experience.

Davide Cenci is quite nice.

As for Italianate shoes, Gatto and Robero Ugolini are lovely as well.

Re: A favorite shop.

Yes, I agree with you since I believe Davies's pricing for a basic two piece is about $3500 and the price Venanzi charges is apparently $5500.

Yet the bit of subterfuge that seems to be employed by Venanzi here is that they say their collaboration is with James & James when in fact James & James is the same company as Davies.

Of course, a bit of money making on part of the naive client.

The shop also has jewelry cabinets in the shapes of Palladian villas and other historical modes by Viscount Linley. A bit of whimsy, I suppose.

Re: A favorite shop.

Monetti is a fantastic shop.  I love the one in Rome.  I have some of their blue ties with a single motif on them and they are as well made as any tie that I have worn.  I do not like Barrett shoes as I have had bad experiences with them in the past.

Re: A favorite shop.

Te elaborate on Monetti, what they do so well is present elegant clothing to be worn in many situations.  You never get the idea that their garments are just business wear, but that they are to be worn to the corner store or to the coffee shop as well.  I would agree that it is a slightly preppy look, but so is much of the best Italian wear.  I would say the overall look that they present is that I look great, but I do not care too much.

Edited to reflect clothing store rather than Moretti beer wink

Re: A favorite shop.

Would you care to post more details about Monetti ties? Do they offer bespoke? How are the silks? My favorite ties are, by far, Drake's 50 oz. for their matte finish and understated elegance; but these Monetti ties look very interesting!

Re: A favorite shop.

There is a shop in Roppongi Hills in Tokyo that sells some G. Lorenzi products, and they are some of the most exquisite things I've seen. Unfortunately, it appears that the shop bought only one of each item they have, so once an item is sold they cannot get another. I also suspect their markup is exorbitant. In particular, I have been admiring a faceted sterling hip flask and a mother of pearl shaving kit.

I would like to learn more about Lorenzi. Have any of you been to their store?

Re: A favorite shop.

This is very interesting, Twin Six. I can imagine the mark-up would be significant given Japanese duties and the Japanese concept of paying full retail for items as a mark of pride.

The products are very one-off, classic and masculine without being overbearing. As I understand it, the store started by selling shaving accoutrements since the owner had a large collection of razors, etc. Of course, they branched out into other esoteric elegance and commission makers to produce "artisinal" goods.

I've been to the store once and it was very beautiful. Bergdorf Goodman in New York also has a small G.Lorenzi outlet.

Re: A favorite shop.

I'm very impressed with the quality. The pieces remind me of things passed down from previous generations. Lorenzi is one of many compelling reasons to take a trip to Italy.
