The American Presidential Election
I'm often rather more interested in the US political scene than what goes on at home. So: will Obama win again? Why do the Republicans seem so hopeless? Has Sarah Palin ever been more than a bad joke from whom you wouldn't mind receiving a back-rub? Why does Bill Clinton still figure as an asset for the Democrats? The guy is a Number One Sleazebag. Meanwhile, in Hollywood, whilst Europe begins to disappear up its own backside, the liberal establishment wrings its hands over the word 'fag'... Are they really so against the pleasures of a quiet smoke in LA?

lt's interesting how folks here think the political parties are in control and can make a difference; Ugh ugh, it doesn't work that way fellas. lt's not about the political parties, it's about big business running the political parties behind the scenes and how they have eroded anything left of a democracy. Wake up guys!
Has Obama done anything majorly different from Bush?
Be careful of all the laws they are passing that the media aren't telling you about too.

Talking of US presidents, Vulcain watches are marketing the new Cricket watch with images of Harry S. Truman who was the first US president to wear a Vulcain branded watch. He wore interesting spectacles too.

The only thing that could save Obama is the weak Rep candidates. When I knew nearly nothing about any of the candidates, I was rooting for Gary Johnson. Now that time has passed, I know much about most candidates, but still nearly nothing about Johnson. For this reason maybe, he is still my favorite.

The Republicans have often fielded weak candidates. Alf Landon springs to mind. Still, he was taking on FDR, who was one of the greatest of all Democratic Presidents. Rick Perry looked a complete fool in the TV debate.

Ron Paul is a conviction politician and deserves some respect for this, he also was well ahead of the curve in voting against the Iraq war. Any hard working and commited politician has to be preferred over the lame, intellectually challenged buffoonery of the neocon theocracy that the Republican party has fielded for quite some time.

Ron Paul's conviction is not personal. He adheres to the United States Constitution with amazing steadfastness. The fact that this makes him a marginalized outcast shows how bad the rest of the crop are.
On Iran last night, he made the brilliantly simple point that Congress has the constitutional power to declare war. The Iraq nonsense was allowed to happen because of a few scammed into voting for a presumably conditional use of force. Couldn't have happened under a Constitutionalist President.
Ron Paul does have horrible 'prole gape' with the jacket collar lifting way off his neck.

Ron Paul won't get in because he is well against the Fed and wants the gold standard, or at least that was what he was on about last time he ran. He has been hushed by all sides, and you won't even hear his name mentioned over in the UK.
Shame, I like the principle points of US ideology, but not what it became over the 300 odd years.

It simply had to adapt to changing world circumstances. "Through illusion to policy", as Dean Acheson put it. The Democrats tended to be more internationally-minded than many Republicans - particularly during the 20s and 30s and specifically after 1933. The Cold War changed their perceptions. Hitler would have done so had German technicians managed to build a bomber powerful enough to reach America's east coast.
