The (ivy) three-piece suit

Marlowe's not a fan, the Woolster just bough an absolute beaut, and Harpo (probably) has seventeen of them in the wardrobe. Difficult to find.

Big in the 1950s, especially in cord with a reversible vest.

I love mine (navy hopsack). I think a three-piece suit truly cuts the mustard for smarter social occasions.

Any thoughts on the three-piece?

Re: The (ivy) three-piece suit

I was a bit sad to have to part with mine, but I'd fucked up badly over the sizing.  GG put me straight.

Tricky to get the size right on these. The fashion as far as I can ascertain was skin-tight vest, roomy jacket, very short slim legged trousers. I got lucky, mine fitted fine straight off - but there's a lot can go askew size-wise.

Just picking up on HRs posting, I've seen quite a few pictures of Sidney P looking immaculate in a three-piece.

Gareth, my love, the camera likes you.  You're highly photogenic and wear the clothing beautifully.  Not always easy, that, by any means.

You really are too kind. I've been a right bloater in my time, I can assure you, Andy. But I took steps.

I've a nice grey flannel 3-piece. The waistcoat is a tad on the short side, sadly. Harpo, you certainly wear the ivy look very well, really cool.

not sure about this:

the blogger seems to be clueless on some accounts, and I have no idea where he copied this stuff from, but despite the shortcuts there's some valid information...

anyway, back to Ivy....

I think Dress Wallace, which is what that tartan is, is my favourite tartan these days. It's so bold. Looks great with the tweed. That's a real winner all round. Nice one, Ville.

Moose: another forum favourite.  Ditto Harpo.  Where are they now?
Yes, I fucked up over the sizing.  Can't remember the details but it was a rather nice tweed Brooks.  No, it was more than rather nice.  But marlowe - bless him - was mistaken over this.  Of course they're Ivy League, for those who can get the sizing right and wear them with complete confidence.
