Seeing the Andover Shop referenced in another thread brought to mind that the proprietor of that particular store, Charlie Davidson, was fond of using a Dopp Kit made of silk, not leather.
Now, I can imagine such a thing, however, I can't quite imagine where such a thing may be bought. Perhaps Sulka in its halcyon days, but obviously Sulka is now gone and Dopp is--if I recall--made in Asian nations now.
There is this item, but it looks like a Kabbaz deluxe shirt label:

So where would one find such a thing, short of bespoke?
As interesting as this sounds I cant really imagine it. IMHO I think you should pitch this idea to Prada since Miuccias such a fan of patterned silks!
Yeah -- I always thought the preference for silk over leather a bit odd -- but if I recall correctly, Brooks had something like this in the mid-80's in repp weave (your choice of something similar to the red/blue/white No. 1 tie or the Arg & Suther Highlanders regimental) in a type of dopp kit that was shorter and thinner (sort of a like a "make up case" than the old Dopp kits that were made of leather. Also accessories like hip and chest wallets were made with the weave. I think Brooks still has the wallets but I haven't seen the kit.
I looked into the original Dopp kits but they're not the old USA make anymore. A pity.
Cooler by far - Carry your kit in an old Madras bucket sun hat!
Find a nice lady to put press-studs on the brim, pull up the sides & snap shut, and you have a kit which looks a little like a Cornish pasty.
I might sell this idea to R.L. ...
... or Harris...

I would not give up on the old silk patterns so easy. We finally located the old master of Lyon that made the finest of silk velvet or Hatters Plush and he is still willing and able to provide this rare commodity not made since the late 50's. We also found a couple more mills that are making up samples of the same for our inspections. You may be amazed what a little research and good will will bring.
