I know there's a few threads devoted to shetlands and the Simons one has been mentioned a few times but if anybody can post written and/or photographic impressions here, please do. Are they all flecked as in that pic earlier today? I'm trying to decide on a Simons, O'Connell's or other option.
Drink, you could talk to farrago about O'Connell's - some good, some awful. The JS offering is rated very highly by Gibson Gardens. Colin also has McGeorge/O'Connell's. Press are allegedly variable; Paul Stuart are awfully expensive (because they're Paul Stuart, I guess). Jim likes those from the Andover Shop.
Farrago may have a navy blue McGeorge available. I think I misjudged the sizing, but am deliberating. Gibson Gardens speaking highly of a JS offering is like water being wet. Having said that, I have attempted to contact him a few times about these, through both the forum and pm. Patiently waiting.
No cord shirts or flannels/checks for JSA this Fall/Winter?
I've got four Shetlands now - which seems to me to be enough. I was lucky enough to get two Shaggy Dogs more or less within a week of one another, the first from farrago, the second from Michael (Typhoid_Jones). The first I got my hands on - secondhand, on Ebay, luckily - was the dark green Paul Stuart. Nice, but not as warm as Press, and prone to damage at the neck. Of course, if you can get to Chiltern Street and talk to John or Paul, that would be good, wouldn't it?
I think Odie now makes O'Connell's current stock. It's a bit tricky, but you need to go up one size in order to get a true fit. For example, I am a 16-34 shirt and a size 42 jacket. I ended up ordering a pair in size 44. They both fit like size 42.
After O'Connell's ran out of McGeorges and started with a new supplier, the sweaters were true to size. Their latest supply needs to go one size up. Go figure!
Inventory in the basic colors seems to be good. The more sublime marls and heathers have sold out more quickly, and some models have only one or two sizes remaining. It could be that O'Connells orders a larger quantity of the basic colors in order to satisfy demand.
The inventory is also filled with the eye searing colors of Americana that don't appeal to most denizens on the board. These sweaters also have a tight neck which loosens up a bit after wearing. Some folks, though, can't fit into such a neck.
All in all, it will be interesting to see what O'Connell's offers next autumn.
What size and color are you looking for?
Navy shouldn't be a problem to order. I don't know if O'Connell's marks them down during their winter sale.
I only have a Lands End Shetland from the early/mid 90's in a medium size. Its color is brighter than navy, more of a royal blue.
Other than that, the museum is mostly stocked in size 42.
Edit: I'd add that this is the sort of thing that made the old Brooks post Xmas sale so great. While the throng was busy snapping up shirts and ties, the sweaters were relatively unscathed. Plenty of sizes and colors without the competition.

Why do so many posters here have to start new (and often inane) threads? This forum is becoming a mutual masturbation club.
One wonders how much the Bishop of Bridlington knows of mutual masturbation. Sounds like a Wee Free man to me.
Don't you talk to Drink like that, you're not a proper bishop, you never conformed no-one.
It was nice just to see a thread about clothes!
Drink please let me know how you get on with the Anderson's relating to size n' that, I quite fancy the Everest and maybe a fairisle. Ta!
