Re: John Simons Shetland

Scattered across this forum are bits of explanation and discussions of the merits of shoulder types. They go into it better than I could - I think that's where I learned - but buggered if I can find them. I'll have a go at digging them up, or a cackhanded attempt at paraphrase if it comes to it. Saddle shoulder is the most Ivy.

Robbo's brevity always make me laugh and his misreading of my post seems a rare misstep. Fair enough, he's obviously v busyman and I do waffle.

Anderson is certainly a company I plan to deal with over the phone. That website seems a mess even by the usual knitwear standard. Some of those photos where they're supposed to show a range of colours of the same jumper do seem to show different jumpers.

I wonder if perhaps one could get funding from the SNP to teach computer literacy in the Shetlands Isles.

Re: John Simons Shetland

I'm a sucker for all sorts of Ivy flat caps, driving caps, newsboy and bakerboy caps with or without buckles, most of mine are some sort of Tweed, especially herringbones, still looking for a nice cord cap, besides there are two soft felt hats, one mid grey and one navy, but I rarely wear them, a Brooks bucket hat for rainy days and few wool hats for the real cool time...

Carefully does it.  You wouldn't want to look like 'Clarence'.

That's what friends are for.

I wore a baker boy in blue cord for a few years. I've gone off it for some reason now. I'm wearing a hat most days at the moment. Either my off white arran tam when it's very cold or alternating between a blue and black watch hat when it's wetter.

Re: John Simons Shetland

I think the saddle-shoulder is merely a 'fancy', Mark.  Nothing wrong with that - I have some that are and some that aren't.  I'd never reject knitwear in a colour I like for that sole reason.

Re: John Simons Shetland

It's something I look for just 'cause of my shape. Round broad shoulders look a bit shit without something to break it up and give it structure. Just a personal thing. I like the look of both types.

To add some confusion to this, both of these could be advertised as "fully fashioned" construction

Re: John Simons Shetland

I think 1966 once argued that saddle is more Ivy because the shoulder looks more natural. I tend to see saddle shetlands in boom years images. I'm not sure that Anderson company is the most professional around. Yep, it looks like it's all inside-out sweaters and inside-out hopped-up sweaty minds tripping on the intricate patterns of their Fair Isle cardies. Allegedly etc.
