Any ideas on where to buy them today. Barries in New Haven is out of business. Their successor no longer carries the Cheaney brand. Can you buy Cheaney shoes anywhere in New England today? Brooks is certainly an option. How does the Peal brand rate this year? Should I be looking at Edward Green for many more dollars? where is the best place to buy them in the North East? Paul Stuart? Do they still sell Edward Green at that Wesport Ct store? any ideas?
On some authority, apparently Gaziano & Girling's RTW line are made at the Crockett & Jones factory.
so where is the best place to buy C&J in NYC these days. which of the Brooks Peal line are C&J? the single or the double row of nails in the heel?
Take a look at the link mentioned above by Mr. Grayson. Look at the Edward Green section: A fascinating chronicle of sleight of hand, dubious business ethics by a shoe manufacturer, citing the "importance of fitting" (with a surcharge) their shoes. Read between the lines, and you will find in Anglo-speak the Executrix deciding not to do business with a merchant who made a substantial deposit in good faith. This gives new meaning to the risks of doing business with English "travellers", as that is what they really are, hiding under the cloak of a helpless retailer.
PLal is the helpless retailer in this instance. In my view, they are rather like the consumer buying from a road show, the travelling Edward Green. Stuck, no recourse with the ever so polite English merchant/maker.
