Re: When bespoke wishes and fabric dreams go wrong

Who the hell says, "No pink shirts"? Except maybe for some cretinous philistines.

I am not sure about clothes as a tribal badge. Of my two brothers-in-law, I am a much better dresser than either--and I am sure both of them would agree with this. The younger went to a much much renowned prep school than I did. The older, who went to a school perhaps equivalent or better than mine, is a disgrace to the preppy nation!

I'm trying to help you, I'm trying to help you to have standards. I'm trying to make you know that the world isn't pleased to see you. You're ugly and superfluous and ignorant and you should be frightened and meek and grateful.

Re: When bespoke wishes and fabric dreams go wrong

"You see these debates all the time: "No black suits, no blue trousers, no pink shirts, etc . . ."  The list of prohibitions and presciptions is mind boggling, tedious and usually based in nothing more than prejudice or, worse still, the internet forums."

No blue trousers? I have not seen that rule (for odd trousers surely) which I break regularly, including today. I don't like or wear pink shirts. Does that makes me a "cretinous philistine"? Perhaps Captain Preppy sees himself as the new sartorial ruler of the fora.

My dislike of black suits solely relates to the dominance of black in Britain, particularly amongst working women in most professions. Have you noticed that nearly all the women journalists who write on fashion wear black whilst eulogising about the psychedelic monstrosities on the catwalks? Another classic example of "do as I say, not as I do"! Frankly, black is boring.

Have to say, I don't mind Snow's ties, but his socks and shoes let him down. As a television newsreader he's the best Blighty has got.

Re: When bespoke wishes and fabric dreams go wrong

Much of what appears on this thread looks OK to me.

However the thread below contains a truly appalling suit
http://www.styleforum.net/t/250290/graham-browne-bespoke-tailor-my-first-suit#post_4592797

It is though the tailor has contrived to make the customers chest disappear. The suit flares out towards his shoes so that he is a walking version of the new Shard building. He is a thin chap but I thought clothes were supposed to hang well on thin people.

Did he just walk off the set of a Vietnam war themed movie?
