Ron Manager and the football coat

An overcoat was the final straw that drove me from the High Street. I wanted a simple Crombie copy and could not find one. Up town at Selfridges they had a Jose Mourinho style garment by Armani for £1200.

In the old days everyone had a decent coat. Nowadays Wenger wears a horrible long quilted thing with a hood and the Arsenal badge. Fergie has a black thing with a bit of zippered knitwear sewn into the collar.

Poor Owen Coyle just wears a tracksuit over his shorts and shirt. Di Canio is not well-dressed and it is a mark of how far standards have slipped that his coat draws comments now instead of his fascist salute.

Oh for the days of sheepskins and proper geezer managers. Malcolm Allison in a Fedora, drinking champagne, smoking a cigar with a Page Three bird at his side.

Nice medallion too and I am not referring to shoes.

Quite right. The good old days when footie managers looked like extras of The Sweeney.

Re: Ron Manager and the football coat

Malcolm Allison was a one-off. Even in 60s, a lot of managers wore track suits in the dugout. The difference was that they were made of superior materials. The Umbro tops worn by Shankly and Ramsey were similar to Harringtons.
