Dating Brooks

I've just received a vintage 346 hopsack blazer, with pewter buttons (bearing the legend "346", funnily enough), I don't think it's of much age though. Out of pointless interest, does any one know how to roughly date Brooks Bros stuff? The label is blue with gold writing........

Re: Dating Brooks

I've noticed a nasty-looking, bland label - as well as the Hanging Pig.  My oldest piece of kit, an overcoat, has a very plain label inside.  Not bland, just quiet and tasteful.

Re: Dating Brooks

I'd also add to NSB's observation that the old "346" labels used a plain block font. The new "346" outlet tends to use a cursive/script.

Re: Dating Brooks

I have an incoming "346" item, but I need to pick it up at the post office later this week.

Re: Dating Brooks

Checking out the union label is always a good idea/first step. Also, it'd probably help if you could post up pictures!

Re: Dating Brooks

This is a great example of the old "346."

Re: Dating Brooks

In fact, I wonder if an American member might buy it on my behalf?

And "The Curriculum" lies bleeding on the floor!

All "Trads" must now wear this style.

Re: Dating Brooks

I'd say late 1960s-early 1970s based on the label.  The 1950s-1960s label for jackets/suits was black with block letters that just stated "BROOKS BROTHERS" so presumably this is slightly later based on the added "Established 1818".  Brookstweed seems to have had a fairly good run from the late 1960s-early 1980s.  I'm not sure what's particularly distinctive about "Brookstweed" but I have two or three tweed 3/2 sack sport coats with that name.

If I can speak for the "trads" for a moment - there's nothing they'd find offensive about that Brooks overcoat - it looks great.

Re: Dating Brooks

In my personal opinion,I think that Garth Brooks is the best male country music artist in the music industry because I think that his music sounds awesome. The good thing about Brooks is that the age doesn't matter as much, that's how consistent there were throughout the years.I like it.Thanks for share this information.
