It's a pretty poor comment on the state of films when that is actually the best blockbuster that has come out in a while. It did remind me of a basic 60's French Noir plot, bit similar to La Samourai or something like that, but with worse clothes.
I preferred Troll Hunter for this months offerings on itunes.
I look at it differently. The clothes and the music and the tough guy gimmicks, like his tooth pick chewing, are all there to lure you into thinking it's going to be some action hero throwback shite like Cobra. But it's not, it's a character study. The character being studied is really very interesting I thought.
Didn't it surprise you when he threatened that guy in the coffee shop? Or when he stomped the guy in the lift? These were surprising moments I thought and films can't surprise the majority of film goers anymore. This would have been a good film if it had come out in any era.
It's not a blockbuster either. It's really an art house film, like Bronson was and like Valhalla Rising definitely was, and it's only really turning over money now it's out on DVD.

But Norway is so on point!
You're having me on. You can Troll with the best of them. That's why Jim likes you so much.
I'm more Skol than Troll.
I can't put my finger on it, and I hate people that take apart films to the nth degree when they don't like them. I just think there were certain elements that held it back from being a really great film. I just left it thinking it was a really great looking film, and the music created a good atmosphere, but even that was a touch over the top.
