Re: Umbrella Ettiquette

Will is cool.
I'd drink with him.

Tightly furled is Guards Officer style.
Unfurled is old Etonian style, unless you were a prefect - The only ones allowed to furl. But maybe that is out of date now...

'Hailing a cab' could be a thread on its own too.

The phallic umbrella salute is now de trop.
A little vulgar too.

But once it was OK. It's always had an air of 'My good man' about it tho'.
Probably it stopped being U.C. by 1958 at the very latest in the centre of London.
It would be a very 'wannabe' signal now.

James Smith is the place for brollies not Brigg or Fox or anywhere else.
Get one with a solid wooden stem, not just a wooden handle.
They cut them to size for you, which is a nice touch I think.

Re: Umbrella Ettiquette

Surely you have a gold mounted Malacca cane, H?

Home James, and don't spare the horses!

Chim-Chim-Cheroo, Guv!

I like the idea that there could be a lost language of unbrellas...

Re: Umbrella Ettiquette

What kind of store can replace the elastic loops that hold a closed umbrella in place?
