" You see how many mysterious paths the dialectic between oppression and liberation must follow, and the struggle to bring light. Even via the groin."
Ahh 1976, and all those yonder wonder years of semiotics, structuralist critique, deconstruction, postmodernism, etc., where intellectuals gazed upon their navels and saw the world in its full manifestation, thus liberating themselves and those who would understand their illuminated insights!!!
I love Humberto Eco and have read The Name of the Rose, Foucault's pendulum in french (don't ask), and in my office is his book on the subject of Beauty for patients to peruse. They are scrumptious confections involving philosophy, thriller conventions, and language gymnastics. Highly recommended. But nothing is more bombastically and unintentionally funny than an Italian intellectual reflecting seriously on trivia.
