Perhaps I'm going too literal rather than literary with this as I was reminded more of a forme frustrée of X. Trapnell from Dance to the Music of Time with his lightweight summer suit and too short pants in winter, covered by a military style drab overcoat. He also carried a walking stick, but had an ivory skull on it and yes, it hid a blade.
I think you hit it on the nail with precious vs bohemian, and therein lies the problem, how to square the two. A difficult tightrope where slight missteps separate sublime skill from funny/sad pratfalls.

Stripes are co.mon here. Possible seen as co.nservative and perhap old fashioned mainly due to all the young cats mainly wearing only solids these days.

Comments from women? I only seemed to get asked by women to help their men shop and dress. I always refuse. Less than politely. I routinely just mumble when asked where I got something. After one woman I worked with would go out and buy her bloke exactly what I had when I told her where I got it. Same shoes even. Bah.

I've only one plain suit.
