My daughter wears very little but Converse. I once bought a pair of Keds, but wore them about twice before getting shut of them. American made Jack Purcell I could quite fancy but part of me feels that at 50 I should act my age.
Converse are all I wear , usually with 501's, a t-shirt, and a sweatshirt. Standard weekend fare for Slob Americana. I am 50, too.
I like the cut of your jib Farrago! You sound like a man after my own heart...
Better yet, which color of Converse do you prefer? In the closet: purple, blue, black, natural, grey, green, lime green. They go well with khakis.
I should go for natural myself, farrago. Or white.
In white sneaker territory, I like the Converse Chucks and Purcells, Incontinence pants Stan Smith or Rod Lavers (always wore these growing up), simple Vans (West Coast style), Tretorns, or the Spring Court- which J Press now stocks. I'll add that in America Keds would be seen as a little femme. Oh, the Sperry sneaker is alright too. What about the Spring Courts? They are uncommon in America (never saw them until recently) and carry little to no social baggage brand wise. Wonder if it is the same over there since there are clearly some things that do.

Purcells all the way. I do love the simplicity of the original, made in usa vans, with the prorper almond shape.
Springcourts are nice, I like the leather variety, as worn by serge gainsbourg.
....Yes, I do belive your right mr. adams, regarding lennon.
Spring Courts were the world's first dedicated tennis shoe. Until their invention players wore shoes with cleats on grass and espadrilles on clay. The brand's old-school credentials are unimpeachable.
Although they are made in Cambodia these days the construction is still very durable and robust. I would urge anyone interested in the pre-Surgical appliance era Converse not to disregard SCs. The canvas is a very thick oxford weave, the real rubber soles last forever and the hardwear like nickel eyelets and laces are of very high quality, not to mention the mint-impregnated insole.
This probably will not go down all that well in these parts but I have pledged my sneaker/trainer allegiance to Common Projects. I only wear two models, and each of them are basically luxe replicas of classic American shoe designs( the Vans era and low top Chuck Taylor). I just got tired of replacing sneakers every 9 months or so. I still wear my Purcell's a bit, though. I am completely taken with the simple design and superior materials of the CPs though.

They are worn by 20 year old hipsters George. A lot of fashion brands make the same shoe but in different materials colours etc. They were a natural progression from the Keds Champion which was the hipster plimsoll of choice for a few years.
...not like those Incontinence pants Court Stars. They haven't been cool for a long time now.... so I guess they are due a come back.
Arn's got a pair! Be kind!
I'm not saying they can't look good Bopster... in another colourway to the ones pictured.
I think he had the leathers ones. To be honest I've gone of them, I nearly got a pair way back when I saw Arn's and the price was good. But I never did, and I've gone off that style, and their other style, I just like the court ace now, hence the 3 pairs.
