Re: Superlative work by JP Gaul -

Where I use to work, there were quite a few old mods and they had many stories about mates who had been killed by lorries and other vehicles whilst riding back from Rhyl and Llandudno on their vespas. I notice here in the Netherlands there is a high road death toll that is blamed on scooter accidents. Of course wearing helmets is not compulsory, but even so, that ain't gonna' help you much.

Like I said I don't like the snobbery of the UK Ivy Cognescenti, especially when one of them rates Paul Weller (sorry Soggs, just couldn't get into it), but you could never say they don't know what they're on about, hence the use of the word 'Cognescenti'. Which I had to spell-check.

The early part of the 20th C was Modernism, nearly at it's peak for shit's sake. The Mid-C it was almost the end of it's cycle and at its populist stage. I really can't stand Chen's, not because he is uninformed, it's because he clearly doesn't give a shit about his subject.

Can I ask you something, Bop, in all seriousness?  Are you getting your ashes hauled?  Or are you still reliant upon solitary wanking?

Don't get all excited just because you're not having to pay for it for once.

You are Ivy's answer to AP.

If I know John, he'll laugh, shake his head, shrug it off, then down another espresso.

Re: Superlative work by JP Gaul -

Ahhhhh - The IS/BS comments section....

Oo Bop runs rings around Chensvold & Goodfella who insist on the most banal & literal reading of 'Ivy League'.

Elsewhere on the blog 'Ivy' & 'Preppy' are the same?

What tosh.

But it must please the blog's Preppy style advertisers. Neither 'men', both the 'Dandy' & the 'Mod' know their subject and are especially uninformed in this latest attempt to trick the i-Cattle that they know their subject(s).

Meanwhile, here at the grown-up's table, we watch & laugh as they spill their jelly (jello) & custard (sauce Anglaise) and puff out their little chests.

wink

Nonsense.  'Ivy Style' is full of entertaining bits and pieces.  I don't wander over there too often, mind you - it's a bit 'bells and whistles' for my taste - but there's something for everyone.  It's only a question of selecting images and filtering them, same with anything else.
