My point was that the term "novelty" is often used pejoratively...

And was the invention of the Brooks #1 sack in 1917 (?) really so unusual. After all there were sack suits sold at Brooks at least about 20 years earlier.

And it had its roots in Europe in the early Victorian age. A humble "workwear" garment that had become the new business look by the turn of the century.

A modern American design with a history in traditional European clothing.
