Aside from the fact that silk holds onto viruses and germs for a long time (assuming these ties are silk), the concept of neck tie is personal expression and social status. This communal thrift is antithetical to the very purpose of a tie, which is no purpose at all except for decoration, male potency and taste/class. You might as well go to a steak restaurant and order a hoof.

^ Think you got it wrong FNB. If you check the link it is a cut price operation selling new ties - not used ones.
So germ free, regardless of the quality of the tie which may be all boring stripey items - but that is a separate issue.

I imagine there is a market for this. A small one, to be sure, but a market nonetheless. I remember a post a few years ago from a guy whose brother rented shoes for a wedding. Not formal shoes or patent leather things---he was just attending the wedding--but he had no leather shoes, didn't want to buy any, and rented them for the day.
