Popovers

Hi Chaps,

I'm in need of a popover to copy, I'm not really impressed by the ones I can find in my own size so need to steal a pattern off a smaller one, does anyone have one to sell or lend me for this purpose? Either way I'll pay you for your troubles.

Thanks!

Re: Popovers

Cheers soggs it's not exactly the type i was after in terms of style i was looking more a 60's style one, but it might work, does it have a box pleat?

Re: Popovers

Oo - why not buy one of the Gant ones - maybe the XL will fit you and use that as template? Just a thought.

Re: Popovers

As a fellow big boy how do you find the sizes with gant Bop.
I am an XL in Bean, brooks and Orvis but Gant definatley XXL
and even then it depends on the cut.

Re: Popovers

Yeah i find that an xl fits like a slim fit, but an xxl fits nicely on the body apart from the shoulder which seems just half an inch too big! I go for xxl

Re: Popovers

The collar's too short on those Gant popovers, just like the modern Brooks flap pocket oxfords. There's hardly any roll.

Re: Popovers

Have to say the makers collar is something else its cut at such an odd angle to give that liberty bell shape. It kind of pushes against itself at an angle, very clever.

Re: Popovers

I was thinking of having my vintage Gant reproduced. But it's so good I'd hate to miss it. Hmnn.

Re: Popovers

Bop, if you want to find something to copy I suggest it's the absolute real deal. No Gant or LVC repros as you're always going to lose a little something and pick up something else. You don't want 3 generation repro designs.

Re: Popovers

Hey Bop

I have vintage Gant popovers and also the new ones and I can't tell the diffrerence, the weejun even had a post praising the virtues of new popover repos, they are identical to the vintage ones, so whoever made them took great care with them...

Here's the weejun post on them (not all their stuff is great but the popovers are kosher)

Some of the suff Gant is doing now is really great and I have the feeling it won't be available for too long... so I've been stocking up on the good models...

Re: Popovers

Gotta say, all the new Gants I have bought have had plenty of collar roll, must just be a few that have been messed with?

Re: Popovers

Damn. The BB shirt looks good.

So far, I only have one pop over-shirt ( modern Gant), but would like to have at least two more. BB had some in oxford last year, but when I wanted to pull the trigger they were gone.

Maybe not very "traditional", but I also like the jersey BD pop overs from BB.

Just to get a repp..

Re: Popovers

I'm still waiting on my Mercer popover order, so I can't report on the shirts just yet (though I'll be surprised if they aren't fantastic, based upon my experience with Mercer's normal shirts), but maybe you should order one from them? Even if you still wanted to have it reproduced locally or for less, you could get one in your size and wear the hell out of it beforehand.

Re: Popovers

I always thought these were more or less the same thing, one or two buttons more or less, one of these mainly from the 1940s and early '50s and before, the other style from the '60s... No?
