This whole aesthetic is on my mind at the moment...

Kinda '60's all this playing with Espionage Style... The Trenchcoat features a lot too - a nod to the French Resistance and Film Noir?
It's another one of those iconic styles.
Bond & all that...

I would imagine a real spy wants to blend in. Was it le Carre who wrote that everyone knew who the spies were so no one pretended not to be? Maybe they just all wear whatever they want.
A cool thread would be one collecting all the styles that float around in the zeitgeist.
A favourite style book of mine 'Jocks & Nerds' started this process back in the 80's...
Joe College.
The Nerd.
The Jock.
The Worker.
The Cowboy.
The Sportsman.
The Rebel.
The Military Man.
The Dandy.
The BusinessMan
The Man about Town.
There may have been others I can't recall.
They certainly mised the Spy & the Gangster as style icons back then.
Who are the new icons?
The Pimp?
The Trad?
The WestEnder?
It's a fun game to play.
Join in if you fancy.
Who else has an identifiable style and look?

Best Bond?
That's always a good topic for 5 minutes fun.

Jocks & Nerds is a very good book, although the title is somewhat misleading.
As for spies, there's a certain retro-style associated with them nowadays; but I suspect in the heyday of the spy era, what we construe as distinct spy-wear was actually quite an ordinary look.
I had an uncle who was a spook (during WWII) and from what I gathered they had people at every level, from blue color at shipyards to black tie at society functions. They dressed appropriately.
I give up , eg.
I know it, yet I don't know it.
Remind me?
Thanks -

FRWL was the best of the series; a flawless film.
TV
I was watching some clips from the 60s comedy (and my moniker) Get Smart.....Maxwell Smart had some really cool outfits. Always immaculately attired with nice cufflinks, slim suits and ties, etc. I suppose his shoes were the weakest part of his ensemble but there's only so much you can do to fit a phone in there right?
perhaps a Vass budapester could have handled the mechanics for a phone
The sooner they make Vass Weejuns the better.
My thanks to Jeeves and FNB for making the 'Spy Style' editorial feature happen.
Anything good about the article is all their own work!

I was a blue colour spy, Tommy.
