It's better to not care about clothes than let a women pick them for you...
I'd love to believe that these people abdicating all clothing choices to their mate are surrendering to one with better style, but I suspect they are just surrendering at life.
But yeah, I'm around this age and practicality and comfort are eclipsing appearance and status.

I thought the older men got, the more they cared about clothes. Y'know, we all want to be a spry and dapper old gentleman with a merry twinkle in his eye!
Of course, the proper iGent response would be that we forsake the despised "fashion" in favor of "timeless style."

Utter tosh, the type of cheap and cheery journalese one expects in the female section of newspapers.
^Or when they get married and have kids.
Getting dressed is one of the small rituals of life, before we even start talking about the context and meaning of the clothes themselves.
At my age I get more fastidious about what I mistakenly used to consider the "superficial" ritual aspects of life (eating, drinking, sex, social gatherings). My time here is limited, and I just don't want to waste time with junk. If it's going to be done I'm going to try to do it as well as I can, and with relish.
So if anything, clothing is really important to me now.
The Daily Mail has a 'Femail' section everyday on its website, it's value to the genre of chick-journalese, is to prove that illiterates of limited mental capacity who are well connected will triumph over the more intelligent and eradite every time.
