A New Prep Site?

some people have mentioned "GoPreppy" over the years. and two of the survivors ie Sally Fowler and myself are trying to figure out how to duplicate the place. not looking to make money, but are trying to create an American prep place (and for the kind aspirational). Anyone have any ideas about how to do this? This may not be the right place to post. but I hope I will be given an indulgence. Horace? Anyone? Cooley? want to solicit views on places I have been banned from? My thought is an adjunct to this spot. But I really don't know. tom

Re: A New Prep Site?

I suppose a starting point would be to approach the original owners of GoPreppy and try to get the content from the site. Obviously, it's shut down but the content might be saved on a server somewhere. Or it could just as easily be lost forever.

Re: A New Prep Site?

There are quite a few 'Preppy' sites out there already, Tom.
How would yours be different?

I think between the death of GoPreppy & the 'Trad' thing others may have moved in on your hood.

...if you build it, they will come, ol chum....

With no disrespect to our most generous host here, a forum moderated by a suffer-no-fools bloke like Tom2222 would be most interesting.

Cheers,
Trip

Re: A New Prep Site?

That Prep Journal site does it quite well I think, but I'm no expert on Preppy.
It needs more input and a broader view of the style maybe. Especially more on the roots of Prep.

What did you think of it?
(Just out of interest)

Re: A New Prep Site?

They do, but it's very under-used.
They're big Polo & J Crew fans over there & don't seem at all dumb.
Been going a year without much action, but they have got themselves lots of links & Ads & all the other Internet things already.

Re: A New Prep Site?

A new article up today on the LL Bean Camp Moc, I notice. Nice.

A good honest site so far. Well put together & well presented IMHO.
No 'Trad' posing.
Just a celebration of the style they love.
I wish them well.

Re: A New Prep Site?

I'm loving this site.
It has real charm:

http://preppyjournal.com/node/398

After all the cynicism we've had lately on the subject of the Classic American wardrobe here are people simply enjoying themselves.

Very refreshing.

Re: A New Prep Site?

I am a very fond and foolish old man...

Am I misquoting Lear here?

I think you'll find it doesn't remotely matter...

I like all of this:

http://preppyjournal.com/node/686

http://preppyjournal.com/node/610

http://preppyjournal.com/node/462

And I could go on.

Here at last is an Eden on the Net. A place to soothe the brow and simply enjoy one's self (sp?)

Then, refreshed, I can return to be the Bastard I was born to be...

Probably time I had a drink now, don't you think?

Re: A New Prep Site?

So cynical!

What I like is that it does no harm.
Preppy is fun & so is 'Preppy Journal'.

Good, clean, honest fun.

The way to ruin all this stuff is to pile on the deep meanings & politics.

"Keep it glad, keep it mad, keep it PREPPY", Tony!

Re: A New Prep Site?

From my new friend 'Preppy' of the 'Preppy Journal':

"The site really tries to cover as many clothing brands as possible. As
time passes, you'll definitely see more alternatives.  But keep in mind,
The Preppy Journal isn't really a purely clothing/fashion/accessories
site. The goal is to cover preppy from a lifestyle point of view so we do
stories on other topics(ie cars, careers, tech etc) as well. It also isn't
intended to be a purely products review site either."

I see the site as very 'hobbyist' in the FNB sense.
A younger crowd maybe, but like-minded people just having fun.

No big theories, just people who like Prep!
