It's an ice-cream sandwich from Diddy Riese, a small, cookie-specific bakery in Westwood, a short walk from the UCLA campus. Absolutely perfect cookies around 5 inches in diameter sell for $0.30, or $0.40 if you get macadamia nut cookies. The sandwich is, I think, still $1 or $1.25: two cookies of your choice, framing the scoop of your choice. Used to be a major vice of mine, though I otherwise ate much healthier back then and got more exercise. Fortunately for my waistline, I don't get into Westwood much anymore.
