Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

It will be interesting to see if they reach silly money.  If the measurements are right (I don't think they are, but I'll check) I might bid.

It'll be silly money as soon as that second one has a bid put down.

Both starting prices are a bit silly really, aren't they?

I agree, they're overpriced even without any bids on them.

Is it mean to hope they don't sell?

Probably, but I'm a mean person so.....

$100 for a new shirt?  Expensive but not ridiculous, if the quality's there.  Particularly considering bleeding madras seems to be literally unattainable nowadays.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

The above I have no problem with, but it's at least 1.5" too short on the sleeve, which is my bete noire.  Half sleeves must come to the elbow, as far as I'm concerned, otherwise the shirt is ruined.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

The thing with vintage shoes is that there's even more element of risk re. sizing than with other clothes.  Unless someone already has that model of shoe (i.e. by the same brand) it's hard to know whether it will fit.  When talking decent money, this is a considerable deterrent.

The Winthrops look great, but for 500 usd?  No way.  Even if I knew they were a perfect fit, I could get nos Florsheims for that price or much less.

Anyone familiar with this maker?  I really can't imagine they beat US Florsheim.

I can't find a great deal other than some old adverts and a photo of their store on Madison Ave.

If that seller gets what they're asking, I will be highly surprised.

What do 1950's NOS Flos go for Yuca, out of interest?

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

The date on the Winthrops is unknown, it's the seller who has decided they're 50s.  The heels may suggest a later date, I really don't know.  (Incidentally, I have read that old leather can crack, so in this case 70s or 80s may be superior to 50s/60s.)

As re. your q, a pair of nos US Florsheims might, at the most, reach a similar price.  To be fair, it would be money well spent, imo.  But are the Winthrops as sought after as Florsheims?

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

I've bought old shoes and not had a problem. i just asked the seller to very carefully measure the inside of the shoe length and heel width. They were spot on. I think these are a bit pricey too, but they do look nice.

Re: Ebay / Etsy alert

Me heart was in my mouth for a moment there. They look top. But a US Womens 6.5 is a UK Mens 5. Too too small.

Nice find though.
