Seriously, it'll probably wash off with mild detergent, maybe some alcohol.

I would first try a rag soaked in water, then possibly a water-alcohol solution. Acetone should be a last resort as I believe it strips off the polish rapidly. Better a little soot remain on the shoes as opposed to josepidal-style 'antiquing.'
