Hats, coats.....scarves and gloves?

Hi all,

As summer turns to Autumn and we think about style for the colder weather we have recently had threads about coats and hats, so what do you like in scarves and gloves to complement your look?

To get things going, as mentioned on another thread I like a square end wool scarf with subtle stripes, nothing too garish or overly trying to be a university scarf, no tassles.  The ones by Geelong in Scotland are good value from eBay, I've also got a range from high street vendors at discount rates.   I avoid the expensive brands or too obviously trying for a Mod look scarves.   Some might like silk, those from Tootal, tassles?   So what is your view for an Ivy Style look?

For gloves it's straight cut, slim style black or dark brown leather all the way for me.   No particular favourite as a good pair lasts years.

Thoughts welcome.

Primark gloves - two pairs for two quid. Does not matter if you lose them but in any case they stuff into pockets easily.

I once paid £60 about ten years ago for some leather and lambs wool gloves then lost them, I was gutted, never again.

I've got an old Simpsons of Piccadilly, silk/cashmere polka dot scarf and a Stetson, tweed newsboy hat. I'm not old enough for gloves.

Saying NO! to Primark

I have some black deerskin gloves with quite a thick wool lining made by Hestra http://hestragloves.com/en/gloves/classics/ they cost me £80 but they're well worth it, has to be freezing to wear them though or they're too warm. As for scarves I have a 60s college scarf in a burgundy black and cream stripe.

I almost made the mistake of winning the recent Oxford University scarf on ebay before I realised it was specific to the university, I had only spotted the design.  I would have been scared to be called out as a fake if I had won it!

They're not ski gloves, just smart looking black leather gloves. I wouldn't spend that on ski gloves as I have a tendency to trash mine, tk max all the way for ski gear.

Scarves get a fair amount of coverage on 'Talk Ivy': college, Tootal, cashmere, lambswool etc.  But gloves?
Is there such an item as an 'Ivy League' pair of gloves?
I inherited mine from my father, along with about a dozen pairs of socks, some of which might be twenty-plus years old.  Dark brown leather, lined with rabbit fur.  No idea how much they might have cost and they seldom come out of the drawer.  About as often, in fact, as my Barry Goldwater tie-clip.

I’m making my own scarves. I learned how to make one stitch in crochet and I can produce it over and over until a scarf appears. It has little if anything to do with aesthetics or fashion. But for something to focus on in the winter during a pandemic- it excels beautifully.

The vintage JS Made in Shetland Tom Baker scarf is the most! You can basically drape it around your naked form, put on a pair of brogues and out you go. Though I have never done this it sounds appealingly kinky.

Love a good scarf. I like regimental/college scarves in particular. They add a pop of colour during the gloom of Winter. I also like a drop of tartan around this time of year - Black Watch being a favourite.
